Tom’s music has been performed throughout Minnesota and Wisconsin at the LaCrosse New Music Festival and the UW-Madison New Music in April Festival, and by the reed trio Le Triangle d’Or, the UW-Madison Contemporary Chamber Ensemble, the Winona State University Wind Ensemble, the Badger Bones Choir, John Chappel Stowe, and members of the University of Minnesota’s Xperimental Theatre when he collaborated with director/playwright Harlan Chambers in a new play called The Interrupted Dream which premiered September 2007. In 2010, the Midwest Graduate Music Consortium selected his Aubade with a Broken Neck for performance.
Tom holds a Bachelor of Science in music education from Winona State Univeristy and a Master of Music in composition from UW-Madison where he’s currently pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts. He’s currently working on his first symphony–his dissertation project–with Laura Schwendinger who is his primary professor.
Other current projects include a song cycle for singer Jennifer Lien, and a work for Pierrot ensemble which will feature in a lecture recital next spring. Lately his research has involved the meaning of color and music, and also gay and lesbian characters and imagery in opera and monodrama.
